Half Marathon Ready

by - 9:47:00 AM

Nafplion half marathon starts in 15 hrs and I can feel the little butterflies starting to move in my stomach. Thing that makes me nervous is the stupid spring flu that I cathced last week. Until this morning I wasn't sure if I would be able to race tomorrow. Luckily, after today's test run, running and my body felt so good that hell yeah I'm going to take part to the half marathon. I've been planning, training and waiting for the race the past two months so there has to be a meteorite falling (fingers crossed, don't want to jinx it!) down for me not to run tomorrow.

Like I've mentioned before, my the most important tool during the whole preparation period has been Nike's half marathon training program. I followed the program step by step and even most of the time it kept me motived, there were some days when meters/miles felt pretty loooonngg. What kept me going, and hoping they will keep me going tomorrow as well, were the things that you can see below. What took care of my body was, YOGA! I almost insist that everybody who is currently running long distances, short distances, or just errands, you must include yoga to your program.

Yoga has been part of my routines for the past four years and during that time I've noticed only positive effects. I will talk about yoga's awesome effects on body and mind, and how it can help improving your run in a later in another post. During the two-months training period I took instructed yoga lessons twice a week, usually after morning run, and did some on my own. After each running session the body clearly recovered faster, but also I didn't feel any major muscle tightnesses. Now, even though yoga is extremely good for your whole body and mind from head to toe, still don't forget the importance of eating well, sleeping well and have fun. Those usually are the best cure for anything!

So, now I should be race-ready. We leave tomorrow morning at 6.30am towards Nafplio and the race starts at 9. I'm suuperrr excited!
